A Closer Look at the EWYK-QZ Heat Pump
Daikin is expanding its heat pump portfolio by introducing the new EWYK-QZ modular air-to-water heat pump, which features the environmentally friendly R-290 (propane) refrigerant. Designed for a wide range of applications, including heating, cooling, and domestic hot water, this high-performance system offers a sustainable alternative to traditional boilers. While the official launch is scheduled for late 2025, visitors to ISH Frankfurt—Europe's leading HVAC trade fair—will get a first look at the prototype from 17 to 21 March.
Flexible Heating and Cooling for Large-Scale Applications
The EWYK-QZ delivers exceptional modular performance, with cooling and heating capacities ranging from 100 kW (single module) to 2000 kW (multi-module system).
The system can replace conventional boilers and provide hot water up to 75°C. In cooling mode, it operates efficiently between -15°C and +27°C at the evaporator outlet and can function in ambient temperatures from -20°C to +46°C.
Innovative Modular Design for Easy Scalability
The modular concept enables flexible system configurations, allowing multiple units to be combined and controlled as a single, unified system. This approach simplifies transport and installation, making it an easy-to-implement plug-and-play solution when paired with the Daikin Manifold Kit and Pump Module.
Additional modules can be seamlessly integrated into building expansions to increase heating or cooling capacity. Each module comes in 100 kW or 125 kW variants, and up to four modules can form a 500 kW array. Four arrays (16 modules) can be combined to create a 2000 kW system managed by Daikin’s advanced Intelligent Chiller Manager (iCM) control system.
Prioritising Safety and Sustainability
The EWYK-QZ utilises propane (R-290), a low-GWP refrigerant, making it an eco-friendly alternative to traditional refrigerants with a higher global warming potential. Daikin has incorporated industry-leading safety features to ensure secure and reliable operation, including:
- Two refrigerant leak detectors – one on the refrigerant circuit and another inside the switch box.
- Unit extraction fan – quickly disperses refrigerant outside in case of leakage.
- Switchbox fan – removes refrigerant from the switch box for added safety.
- Visual and acoustic alarms – a siren positioned on the switch box alerts operators in case of a leak.
All components are externally wired for seamless integration, ensuring consistent and safe operation.
Simplified Maintenance with Daikin on Site
The modular design enhances maintenance efficiency, allowing each module to be accessed and serviced independently. Additionally, the Daikin on-Site remote monitoring system enables proactive maintenance and real-time system status tracking, helping to optimise performance and reduce downtime.
Maximising Efficiency and Reducing Running Costs
The full-inverter design of the EWYK-QZ improves efficiency and lowers running costs by dynamically adapting to varying demands. The system features:
- Scroll compressors with inverter technology – ensuring optimised performance and energy savings.
- Brushless fans – delivering high efficiency at part loads.
- Modular configuration – minimising on-off cycles to extend equipment lifespan and enhance system reliability.
The Daikin EWYK-QZ modular air-to-water heat pump is set for launch in late 2025, with an exclusive first look at ISH Frankfurt 2025.
